Product Research

Our Thoughts: Although not as in-depth as the beautifully orchestrated Piano Mastery 101 teaching series, Albert Edge’s Piano By Pattern is still a leading forerunner in the online piano market.

As the name implies, Piano By Pattern, teaches you how to play the piano using Albert Edge’s coveted “pattern” technique. This technique should be required learning for all pianists, regardless of if you’re a virgin to the keys or your last name is Liberace.

What makes this exciting technique so remarkable is that it literally grabs the dreadfully long piano learning curve by the ankles and DDTs it into sinfully sweet submission. This is fantastic news for people wanting to play.

For beginners, this signifies the end of suffering through 4 or 5 years of useless theory, and gets you jamming on the good stuff within days.

For pros, learning these techniques means you’ll be soloing over that new set-list effortlessly in minutes.

How is this possible? Well, to be honest, I’m not exactly sure.

All I know is that the staff was laughing at me Tuesday evening when I told them I was reviewing Piano By Pattern but when I began to play Thursday morning, they were dumbfounded with amazement.

It really is that good! But that’s not all...

In addition to drastically reducing the learning curve, Piano By Pattern also teaches you how to:

  • Improv on the fly
  • Train your ear to play your favorite song without ever touching sheet music
  • Feel the “groove” and jam with other musicians without missing a beat
  • Create your own melodic riffs out of thin air...(I know how crazy this sounds but I swear it works!)

There’s even some bonus material included that will help you sight-read more efficiently and compose more professional sounding songs.

On the technical side, the quality of the footage isn’t going to win any Oscars anytime soon, but that’s OK because the content is delivered in a concise and easily understandable format.

It’s also important to note that if you’re looking for Julliard-type theory, you’re not going to find it here. That’s really not the focus of Piano By Pattern.

Piano by Pattern is intended for beginners wanting to play the piano exceptionally well in a short amount of time, and pros looking for a few slick tricks to add to their repertoire. If you fall into either one of these categories (or anywhere in-between), Piano By Pattern is definitely worth checking out. It’s the perfect compliment to the more in-depth Piano Mastery 101 series.

I highly recommend it.
